Month in Review September 2010: The Alchemy of Empire

Mission

The terrorist attacks of September 11 marked the beginning of a new and frightening period in our history. Thousands of people died that day, and their families along with the country as a whole are still struggling to recover. But President Bush's response of "permanent war against terrorism at home and abroad" has further endangered the lives and liberties of millions of people everywhere.

War Times/Tiempo de Guerras was started to help broaden and deepen the fight against the Bush program by compiling information and analysis, and putting them into the hands of large numbers of readers, through a nationwide, free, bilingual (Spanish and English), antiwar newspaper

War Times/Tiempo de Guerras produced 19 issues (distributing roughly 100,000 copies of each) between February 2002 and the suspension of publication in October 2004.

Looking ahead, we plan to continue producing bilingual outreach materials with the same political character, target audience, and editorial mix as War Times/Tiempo de Guerras. We do not have – and cannot foresee attaining in the immediate future – the funds to continue as an in-print free tabloid. But with current technology we can post leaflets and flyers on the web, and these can be downloaded and reproduced for hand-to-hand distribution by organizers (as well as forward via e-mail).

War Times/Tiempo de Guerras is a project fiscally sponsored by the Center for Third World Organizing.
