Thanks to members of the Manx Dune Buggy Club, I’ve learned a lot about my recently acquired buggy that in its original form with a Corvair engine was known as the “Queen Max”.

This is one of approximately 30 fiberglass body copies (1967) from Steve McQueen’s heavily modified Meyers Manx buggies that he helped design for his sand-racing scenes in the 1968 movie “The Thomas Crown Affair” starring himself and Faye Dunaway.

Professionally assembled in Sarnia, Ontario and mated with an updated 1965 chassis, a 1600 dual-port engine with Type-3 Solex carbs, 1971 Vega taillamps and 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass 14” wheels, this buggy is so much fun to drive and draws a lot of attention with it’s unique sculpted headlamp scoops.
