I found the body for my new car leaning against garage while
going to a drive in hamburger place in Calgary. It was a far
better body than my first car. That was in 87, so I dragged
it around on a chassis (70) for 12 years before I got around
to building it. Work ,birth of my daughter and buying a house
and working on the old car to keep it hill climbing got in
the way of starting the new car. The new car took 3 years
to make. I had the '70 swing axle pan shortened and a 6pt
cage installed. A battery box hangs from the rear part of
the cage which also supports the red poly 7 gallon gas tank.
64 mustang tail lights (which is one reason why I bought the
body!!) and motorcycle halogen headlights in EMPI offroad
chromed housings. The wheels are a set of EMPI Sprint Stars
that I had powdercoated Silverdo. They really give the car
that nostalgic look. The engine is a 1500 single port with
my offroad induction of a Zenith 32 NDIX carb. Its a place
to start and it moves the car not too bad at all. Put 1300
miles on it last summer ( didnt licence it till August and
drove till mid October) and it got over 30 miles to the gallon!!!!
One other thing - people love the car!!! There are 5 cars
in the Calgary area(that I know of) and Ive met up with Doug
James who is #1058.Im helping him with wiring etc on his Manx.
The Manxter looks fantastic!!!!! I want one. It would offer
better protection where I am. Thanks again. Hope someday to
make the trip south to meet up with the two of you and the
club members in your area!
